The Security Driver compliments executive protection programs. At times due to preference or budgetary constraints, the security driver maybe the only executive protection asset. Why have a security driver? A security driver adds much value and benefits to executives and their organizations. Enhanced safety and travel in transit, superior training in defensive driving and executive protection, which involves meticulous planning, threat assessment, high level of situational awareness in the field, just to name a few. In this executive protection blog post we'll discuss a few key points of the security driver advantage.

Key advantages of a security driver:

  • High level of safety and security:

The security drivers primary responsibility is to protect their passengers with safe and secure transportation which means they are trained, vetted and can perform to get key personnel from point A to point B. Additionally, the security driver adds a sense of comfort, confidence and allows its passengers to keep a relaxed peace of mind.

  • Corporate value:

The security driver allows executives to focus on running their business while in travel, review their upcoming schedule, field phone calls and emails and a host of other tasks that can benefit the company. On average the security driver can free up between 1 & 2 hours of time each day for the executive. In contrast, that's about 5 to 10 hours a week and between 20 to 40 hours a month of productive time. Lastly, the security driver can assist the executive with miscellaneous tasks, should the threat level be low risk or the executive is in a secured location.

  • Specialized training:

Security drivers undergo rigorous training in defensive driving, they understand the full capability of the vehicle they are driving and understand the vehicles dynamics. Additional training received is threat assessment, threat recognition / identification, emergency response, even close protection attack on principal techniques, medical training to include CPR and trauma care. This completes the full spectrum of situational awareness training.  Our security drivers and executive protection personnel are required to successfully pass our signature executive protection training course which includes defensive and security driving.

  • Meticulous planning process:

Like executive protection details and large scale security events, the security driver meticulously plans each movement. From primary and alternate routes, designated safe locations throughout each route, hospital locations, danger areas, choke points other vulnerable areas, the security driver is fully versed in this process. Much of this process is conducted between movements and behind the scenes. A professional executive protection agent or security driver may even drive some of the routes ahead of time to ensure a flawless trip.

  • Added security presence:

The security driver provides a security / executive protection presence when seen with their executives. It demonstrates and implies that their is additional security present, additional executive protection resources present when they may not be. The security driver has much experience and training with arrivals and departures of their client. This is extremely important to have the security driver present and stay with or near the executive vehicle because most attacks on principals (AOP) happen around vehicles or near their residence / opens space. The security driver is well versed in emergency response, reacting to contact or an AOP.

  • Chauffer or security driver as it applies to executive compensation:

A chauffer or a company vehicle used by an executive is considered executive compensation. Meaning the executive will have additional taxable income. However, with an Independent Security Study conducted that has identified risks and threats to the executive / company, and the company implements reasonable security measures recommended such as a security driver, the security driver services will not be considered taxable income. This is an added benefit and can keep key personnel safe within the organization.
